|Is Problems, Mebbe
Due to still rather unbelievable vagaries of fate, it would appear that BOTH computers at our house have chosen to give out at once, so -- we'll be offline for the near-foreseeable future. I'll let y'alls know again when we're back to capacity again.
(SI peeps, it should probably go without saying that we're off this week.)

|To the floor
In the tradition of the "ding" game:
How many movies can y'all name which have a title which references a time which is relatively defined
? (That is, the title denotes a time that is in reference to an unspecified time or event.)
The ones we identified that unambiguously meet the criteria:The Day After Tomorrow
28 Days Later
(and by extension, Friday After Next
(Back to the Future
was proposed; the jury is still out.)
Titles like 9 Months
or 13 Days
do not meet the criteria, since there is no implied reference point; they really just describe an amount of time.

|a happy thing, a sad thing
Thanks to dental insurance and a helpful local dentist, my tooth went from consistently sore and painful to non-bothersome. I can eat cold/sweet things again!
However, the six-week forced dietary change had an effect I was a little afraid of. I've had a couple now since I was "allowed" again, and I can confirm: Snapple just doesn't taste as good anymore. It's just like Casey and the Doritos.

A repost of the basic setting information from the Spelljammer game from last time I tried to run it, back in 2004. Anyone who's potentially participating (which should feel free to include anyone from the Massachusetts corridor) feel free to ask questions or whatever. Map to follow once I PhotoShop it up a little.( Into outer space...Collapse )

So, after many delays on my part, a huge selection of wedding photos are now available at my Flickr page
At the moment, I have the wedding photos tagged as "Wedding" and either "Ceremony" or "Reception" (all batch uploaded with no descriptions or anything) while the vaca pictures are more elaborately and humorously tagged and described for your entertainment.
I'd like to put up the additional photos from Zach, Ryan, etc. as well -- I'll try to figure out how best to get those from each of you.

1) I bought a Flickr account, and I'm going to try to fill it with all the wedding pictures. I'll post the address this weekend once everything currently in my possession is uploaded, but in the meantime if people who took wedding pictures could either point me to their current location online or make arrangements with me so that I might obtain copies, I would be eternally grateful. (Also, thanks one more time to everyone who came out!)
2) How do people feel about Spelljammer?

Thanks to the wonders of utility bureaucracy, we apparently will not receive electrical power at our new residence until the 5th of September. You may quite properly expect us to be largely out of contact until that time.

So! Friends, romans, countrymen, I'm not sure how many of you have a place to stay in this area on the date of our wedding. There is going to probably be a fun party event of some sort on Friday night (most likely gender-segregated ATM though other plans are fairly vague so far) and probably a morning-after brunch on Sunday morning.
We have a hotel with rooms still available for $139/night for both friday and saturday night, but they need to be booked before September or the rate goes up by about $30.
So, the reason I post this is: if there are people who would like to stay the night but don't have a place yet, let me know and we can coordinate booking one or two rooms for groups of people to crash in.

1) We got an apartment! It is nice as hell. We're moving just over the bridge (shock, gasp) to Northampton. Thanks for the hookup, Craigslist!
"Josh looks like somebody just gave him a twirly in a bowl full of Vanish."
"Josh looks like a 9-year-old, he's actually 12."
"Josh looks like another perfect Aragorn."
"Josh looks like he cleaned up a little but it may just be the wet hair and the fact that he is in the water."
"poor Josh looks like a dirty Q-Tip."
"Josh looks like a young man with greatness in his future."
("Josh Looks Like A Queer Lol" wasn't here when I tried this yesterday, but appears to have scooted onto the first page.)
3) Zach, make sure you log on and check your friends page.

|Star Trek: A New Crappy Beginning
7:40 PM: "Hey, a phone call from someone rumoring that star producer JJ Abrams of Alias
will direct a new Star Trek movie. Hmmm. Let me think on that."
7:41 PM: "Hey, that's pretty believable rumor! I just remembered that his shows are produced by Paramount, and has the JMS 'I am a nerd who would obviously love to inject new ideas into Star Trek' quality without the JMS 'I am a hopeless
7:42 PM: "Yeah, man, this could be really awesome. Based on Lost, I can see him creating a really great cast of diverse characters who get along (or don't) in interesting, new ways, and taking lots more chances than stupid Berman ever did. Bring it on!"
7:43 PM: "Awesome! It's true! Now I'm pumped, new Star Trek by a competent person is like a totally RAD development."
7:44 PM: "Oh. It's a prequel, with bad new actors playing Spock and Kirk. First, didn't they realize that those characters are practically impossible to recast? And second, doesn't this just mean more Enterprise-style dumb retcons? Hmm. Still, could be good!"
7:45 PM: "Oh. The scriptwriting team for this movie wrote Armageddon. But, uh. I guess it could still be good."
7:46 PM: "Oh. The scriptwriting team for this movie wrote The Island
. I wish this idea hadn't completely disintegrated for me within the span of six minutes."
